Golf history in Morocco

Golf in Morocco has more than 100 years old history, the first golf course was build in 1914 in Tangier and it was designed by the famous British architects Cotton & Pennink. The second one was build in 1930 in Mohammedia, the Royal Golf of Mohammedia. Three years after, the third green was born in Marrakech, The Royal Golf of Marrakech. It was imagined by the Marrakech Pacha in 1927.

At the beginning of the 70’s, Morocco starts a large program, inspired by late king Hassan II, aimed to scale golf across the country. The late king launched the largest golf course in the kingdom, the Dar Es Salam Golf Course. It was designed by Robert Trent Jones Senior with 45 holes.

The late king launched also the prestigious Hassan II Golf Trophy in which several big golf names participated.

Designed by Hawtree & Sons in 1976 and reviewed by Cabell B. Robinson, who gave it its current look, the Cabo Negro Golf Beach is located on the Rif mountainside facing the sea.
